Typhur Dome 2 Review

The Typhur Dome 2 is the quietest and most expensive air fryer I have ever reviewed. It makes amazing pizzas, has an enormous drawer, and features a self-cleaning cycle that means cleaning around the heating element is a thing of the past. You can even combine it with other gadgets to make one of the most high-tech air fryer setups I have ever seen. But is it worth the price tag?

What Is New in the Typhur Dome 2?

The Typhur Dome 2 is the second generation of this air fryer. They have changed a few things since the last iteration. The display is different, they have made it bigger, and weirdly it is actually lighter too. They have also added a second heating element at the bottom of the appliance to create what the manufacturers call a 360° heating system inspired by pizza ovens. This means you do not have to toss or shake your food. You get all-around browning simply by placing it in the drawer.

It features a single shallow drawer which is 12 inches across and about 2 inches deep, along with a grill plate. Both have a PFAS-free nonstick ceramic coating. Because the drawer is shallow, the Dome 2 is not going to be able to fit everything in it, but I was repeatedly surprised at what did fit.

You can actually do a whole chicken if you spatchcock it, and of course it is easier doing cuts of chicken. One of this appliance’s claims to fame is that it can cook 32 chicken wings in one go, or a few less if you have a family my size.

Design and Footprint

The footprint of the Typhur Dome 2 is pretty big. It uses nearly the full depth of the worktop, which means you cannot fill or empty the drawer easily directly in front of it. In our small kitchen, I was constantly searching for a place to put the drawer when I was filling it or taking cooked things out. This air fryer really wants to be on a kitchen island with lots of space around it.

On the display there are eight cooking options which are pizza, bacon, steak, wings, air fry, toast, grill, and reheat, along with controls to adjust the time and temperature. The limited options threw me a little at first because there did not seem to be any option for baking.

However, in order to see the full range of controls you need to connect the Typhur Dome 2 to the Typhur app. Once connected, you can see all the modes, presets, and the self-cleaning option, as well as a big selection of recipes to inspire you.

Cooking Performance

Because the Typhur Dome 2 has a 12-inch wide basket, it is crying out to be used as a pizza oven. So that was the first thing we tried. The pizza setting and the steak setting both have a preheat function, so you put food into the basket when it is already hot. You cannot turn the preheat option off or alter its duration.

Preheating works really well if you have a ready-made pizza because they are pretty rigid and easy to slide into the drawer. It is much trickier if you have homemade pizza dough. You cannot really lay the dough in the drawer before adding the toppings because the drawer and the appliance will cool down in the time it takes to make the pizza.

If you make the pizza on a peel as we normally would for our outdoor oven, the sides of the basket make it tricky to slide the pizza off easily because you have to do it from an angle. In the end, we settled for preparing the pizza on baking paper and then lifting the baking paper into the drawer.

I was worried about the edges of the paper igniting when they came into contact with the heating element above, which would normally be a danger in an air fryer. But because the fan speed runs pretty low on this setting, we had no problems and the paper did not even show any sign of singeing after multiple uses.

The pizzas we cooked in the Typhur Dome 2 were really, really excellent. It was great to be able to cook a proper-sized pizza in a worktop oven. Typhur advises you to cook directly in the drawer without the grill plate, but even when we used the grill plate while still working out the best way to get the pizzas in, we got great results with no soggy bottoms.

I also tried using the expansive basket to make cookies. Because I had not downloaded the app at that point, I did not have access to the bake setting, which is available only via the app. Instead, I cooked them on the closest setting I could think of, which was the pizza setting.

I was very surprised to say they were actually really good, kind of delicately toasted on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. My friends told me I have to always cook them this way in the future, so I might have accidentally discovered some incredible cookie hack. It does go to show that it is actually pretty hard to ruin anything when you put it in the Typhur Dome 2.

How Quiet Is the Typhur Dome 2?

Now that I mentioned the fan running quite low on the pizza setting, it is also a good time to mention that this air fryer is incredibly quiet when it is running, particularly on the pizza setting. I actually kept having to check it was still running because I could not hear any sound from it.

I did attempt to get a recording of how quiet it was, but I ended up just recording the sound of everything else in the house, including the fridge and the central heating. Doing a dB reading like I normally would on a noisy air fryer would have been utterly pointless because all I would have recorded was the level of the background noise, which was actually louder than the air fryer itself.

Self-Cleaning Function

One of the other things this air fryer should do better than others is cleaning. The Typhur Dome 2 has a self-cleaning mode. This is not the first time I have seen an air fryer advertising that function. It is kind of the Holy Grail of air fryer functions at this point. The Philips 5000 has a self-cleaning mode that uses steam, but it only works in one drawer and I was not convinced it was actually very effective.

The self-cleaning function on the Typhur Dome 2 is more like what you would see in an oven, using high heat to burn off buildup on the oven surface. That technique is generally very effective. Typhur recommends using it once or twice a month to stay on top of cleaning, and there is also a deep clean option if you have accidentally left it for a little bit longer.

Steak Setting and Smart Tech Integration

The Typhur Dome 2 also has a setting for cooking steak, which uses advanced technology to limit smoke during cooking. If you set it up in the app, you can sync it with the meat probe that Typhur also makes. You can choose your cut of meat and its desired finish, then monitor the progress of the cooking in real time, tracking both the ambient temperature in the dome and the temperature of the meat. You get alerted at the exact moment your steak is medium rare, which is pretty clever.

I have to be honest. It was at this exact point, while I was cooking a steak with about £800 worth of equipment, that I had a sudden realization about who this air fryer is actually designed for. Although I love some of its functions, I do not think it is targeted at me. With its ability to cook pizza and 32 chicken wings in one go, I initially thought it was a party air fryer for family entertaining.

But after using it for a week, I now think that the Typhur Dome 2 is the ultimate bachelor air fryer. That is why the bake setting is hidden in the app, because the target market are not prioritizing cookies. They want to do steak, bacon, and pizza. Food you can eat while watching a match on a big TV, monitored from another room with high-tech precision. You can also do that setup with the heat probe for less money if you buy the single probe version.

Running Costs and Energy Usage

I test air fryers to see how economical they are to run, but I am not sure that anyone dropping £500 on this air fryer is going to be too worried about running costs. However, for the sake of consistency, the Typhur Dome 2 used 0.219 kWh running for 10 minutes on air fry at 200°C. That is quite a lot for its 5.3-litre capacity, as it is equivalent to using the 10-litre drawer in the Dreo Air Fryer or both drawers of the 9-litre Philips 3000 air fryer.

Pros

  1. Exceptionally quiet operation, quieter than any air fryer tested.
  2. Large 12-inch basket perfect for full-sized pizzas and 32 chicken wings.
  3. Effective high-heat self-cleaning mode saves time on maintenance.
  4. Smart app integration with real-time meat probe monitoring for precision cooking.

Cons

  1. Very expensive at £500, making it inaccessible for most buyers.
  2. Shallow drawer limits the variety of foods it can accommodate.
  3. Pizza cooking takes 12 to 18 minutes, far slower than a traditional oven.
  4. High energy usage relative to its 5.3-litre capacity.

Should You Buy the Typhur Dome 2?

Here is what I thought overall. I found the cooking results consistently good. I love the fact that it is quiet, and even the ping at the end of cooking is pretty inoffensive. The depth of the drawer is a little limiting and some things are never going to fit in it, but I have not actually found what those things are yet. The pizzas, as amazing as they were, were not that fast.

The instructions recommend a cook time between 12 and 18 minutes depending on whether they are fresh or frozen, which means that is quite a big time gap if you are cooking pizzas for multiple people, especially considering an outdoor oven would do them in one or two minutes.

The Typhur Dome 2 is a genuinely impressive piece of kitchen technology. It is quieter than any air fryer I have tested, delivers consistently excellent results, and the smart app integration makes it feel more like a premium cooking system than just another air fryer. If your budget stretches to it and you are looking for the very best air fryer experience, it absolutely delivers.
